Several facilities projects will begin in May in the Richard J. Daley Library and the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago. All projects will create dust and noise; patrons coming to the buildings should consider bringing hearing protection devices. The Library will keep patrons informed about temporary service desk relocations and inaccessible areas on its website and building signage.
From May 12 through August 22, workers will be installing a sprinkler system and upgrading the fire alarm system throughout the Daley Library. The Circle Reading Room renovation also begins on May 12. First floor areas and services will be affected during the week of May 12:
- The IDEA Commons will be closed Monday, May 12 – Monday, 19. The Reference desk will be relocated to the center of the lobby; contact them through Ask a Librarian or by phone (312 996 -2726). The ITL will operate out of its west location (room 181 BGRC); contact them via email (email@example.com) or by phone (312 996-9824).
- The Reserve/Media desk will be relocated to the 2nd floor. Staff, the service desk, reserve books, and media will be on the second floor (at the top of the escalator) from May 12 through the end of the fall 2014 semester. Phone number (312 996-2719) and email (firstname.lastname@example.org) remain the same.
The Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago begins an electrical upgrade project on May 12 that is expected to last four to six weeks. Work involves removing portions of the ceiling and drilling through concrete on the lower level and first floor. Some group study rooms on the lower level will be unavailable part of this period.
