Several facilities projects are underway in the Richard J. Daley Library and the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago. All projects create dust and noise; patrons coming to the buildings should consider bringing hearing protection devices. The Library will keep patrons informed about temporary service desk relocations and inaccessible areas on its website and building signage.
Areas affected during the week of June 30:
- Pipe installation for the sprinkler system in the Daley Library 2nd floor continues throughout the week. This work will impact the quiet study area and all public areas on the floor.
- Workers will install terrazzo flooring in the 1st floor/northeast area of the Daley Library beginning the week of June 30. The project is expected to take from ten to 14 working days to complete, during which there will be no access to/from the 1st floor north stairwells. Also, there will be several days when the administrative hallway is inaccessible. Any library staff member can provide instructions on alternate paths to the dean’s office, Human Resources, and ILL/DRU.
- Construction in the Daley Library Circle Reading Room (1st floor) continues.
- The Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago began an electrical upgrade project the week of May 19 that is expected to last four to six weeks. Work involves removing portions of the ceiling and drilling through concrete on the lower level and first floor. Some group study rooms on the lower level will be unavailable during this phase of the project.
